The 2024 Wibo Foundation Science Competition is in progress.

2023 Wibo Foundation – Mzumbe Secondary and High School Science Competition Results

This is the third year where the Future Africa Wibonele Foundation Science program is conducting its competition for Mzumbe Secondary and High School Students. Like the previous years, the main goal for the competition is let the students be creative and use science, technology, or entrepreneurship to innovate and solve community problems.

2023 Science Competition Message from the Executive Director of Future Africa Wibonele Foundation

1st Place Winner 2023: 300,000/= Prize – Team Silverline Group
Members: NIVILE PAUL, GOODLUCK EBRON, JOVAN KAJALA
Idea: Using SMS to turn on/off Lights
Summary: Increased electrical bills due to unnecessary use of electricity caused by failure to turn off some appliances such as bulbs, fans, electrical fences etc. may be caused either by some ones job, traveling ,or forgetting. Due to growing technology worldwide, we are able to solve the problem by using simple mobile phone messaging system to send messages that command the appliance to either turn on or off.

2nd Place Winner 2023: 200,000/= Prize– Team Crehub Project
Members: NICKSON ZAKAYO, CHRISTIAN HUGO, FELIX MAPUNDA
Idea: Electricity Fault Detector
Summary: Electricity is an essential energy source for schools and yet it has some negative consequences attached to it because of electricity faults. An electric fault is categorized into short circuit, electric leakage circuit and open circuit. Electric faults can happen due to a certain issues such as live and neutral contact, open/bare conductors or unearthed conductors. Through the knowledge we have acquired in the class, we came up with a proposal of ELECTRIC FAULT DETECTOR (E.F.D) which is the simple electronic device used to detect the presence of electric flowing through a conductor.

Finalist 2023 – Team Romes (20,000/= prize for each member)
Members: SALIMIN R. RUME, GOODLUCK PATROKILI, JOSHUA NZASULE
Idea: Rice Husks in Grain Storage
Summary: The main issue is that, according to the statistics, it seems that the use of insecticides and pesticides in storage of grains (crops) has brought some problems including health defects in people and also give out gases and chemicals which pollute the atmosphere and environment in general. In the course of addressing such a problem, the proposed method can be used to reduce the problem which is by using the rice husks by mixing them with grains.

Finalist 2023 – Team Primsoft (20,000/= prize for each member)
Members: JAMES J. TEMANYA, GALANDA J. SWEYA
Idea: Shopping Application
Summary: High latency in shopping has been a major setback towards the development of the economy of the country. This problem is visible in the shopping duration experienced by consumers in the country, in the sense of the time spent by consumers to perform market surveys for the products they need, compare prices, make purchases and finally deliver the goods purchased to the designated place. This problem can be solved by creating a computer system that will create the link between consumers and traders and enhance the relationship between consumers and traders.

Finalist 2023 – Team Jablix (20,000/= prize for each member)
Members: ONESMO A. SHEDRACK, YABES G. ABDALAH
Idea: Free Electricity Generator.
Summary: The problem identified is the insufficiency and shortage of electric power to run domestic, economic as well as industrial functions. We would solve the problem by presenting an installation that works efficiently to produce high electric power without the dependence on the external input such as wind, sunshine or any other unreliable input.
